London sex worker open university 2011 call for submissions
London Sex Worker Open University 2011
call for submissions!
Dear friends, sex workers, allies, academics, artists ….
We now invite submissions for the next Sex Worker Open University which will happen 12th – 16th of October 2011 in London, UK. Like at our last event in April 2009, we will create a space for anyone involved in sex work and sex worker activism to come together for debate, workshops, films, to socialise, learn new skills and empower themselves! If you have an idea for a something that you’d like to happen please get in touch.
S.W.O.U will happen in different places in London: community centres, universities, clubs and the streets! We are working with very limited funding, so though we cannot cover travel costs we are looking at ways to raise funds – so let us know your needs and we will see what we can do. Some accommodation will be available but needs to be planned in advance please let us know now if you will need a place to stay.
Here is a little taste of things to come!
Workshops will include:
History of the sex worker movement in the UK.
Self Defence
Media training
Emotional boundaries
Relationship and Intimacy
Sacred Kink
Pole dancing
Mental health
Tax and Law
Zine making
Creative writing
and many more …
Plus! a film night, debates with academics and international activists, performance nights and visibility demonstration.
How to get involved:
The Sex Worker Open University is a project run by sex workers for sex workers. We also believe in building strong alliances with allies and we welcome the participation of anyone in the sex industry, academics, artists … who respect the principle of self-organisation for sex workers. The first Sex Worker Open University event, which took place in London in April 2009, was a great success bringing together more than 200 sex workers, sex workers’ rights activists, allies and visitors from the UK and abroad took part in workshops, discussions, actions and art exhibits over five days.
