Oppose the ‘nil policy’ on adult venues in Hackney
Hackney Councils is planning to adopt a ‘nil policy’ for all adult venues. This means that the four adult venues in Hackney are at risk of closure.
It also means that around 300 people – including dancers, security staff, cleaners and bar staff – are at risk of losing their jobs. The only way to stop Hackney Council from adopting the nil policy is to organise.
When workers come together and get their voices heard they are stronger and can change not only their work conditions but also they can have a say in government policy.
The Hackney Council is currently undertaking a community consultation. Please help dancers by taking the time to fill in the online survey – www.hackney.gov.uk/3450
What you need to do TODAY:
- If you work in one of the venues under threat – join a union. The more union members in your workplace – the stronger our voice will be to lobby the council
The GMB is the third largest union in the UK with 600 000 members. In 2004 the GMB opened a branch for all workers in the Adult Entertainment industry, including dancers. Contact the president of the Adult Entertainment Branch Thierry: 07 889 461 369
Equity is the UK Trade Union representing professional performers and other creative workers from across the spectrum of the entertainment, creative and cultural industries. http://www.equity.org.uk/
